AFT at MINExpo 2021

Visit AFT at MINExpo 2021

August 8, 2021 -- Colorado Springs, CO, USA -- Applied Flow Technology will be at MINExpo® International from September 13, 15, 2021  at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Visit us in booth #28021 located in the South Hall. AFT's Reinaldo Pinto and Nick Vastine will be available to discuss how engineers can use AFT software tool on several aspects of the mining design.

The MINExpo is known as the place for mining industry professionals to discover equipment and services – from the smallest components to the largest excavators. While AFT is a small company among some of these giants, Engineers can stop by to learn how and why they should use AFT software and how it can help engineering teams. Whether you are dealing with liquids, gases, or slurries in your piping systems, AFT can handle it!

AFT software can be used in the Mining Industry for:

  • Slurry Transport
  • Dewatering
  • Tailing Pond Pumps
  • Fire Protection Systems
  • Water / wastewater systems
  • Air Ventilation
  • Gases transport
  • And more

Read how Geoffrey Stone, principal at Blenray Pty Ltd, used AFT Fathom to model a proposed modification to a mine dewatering system in Indonesia. The proposed system consisted of four skid mounted parallel pump sets, lined up in series, and fed from an existing pontoon pump system. The system required a flow capacity of 480L/s (7,600 gpm), over a pipeline distance of 4,300 meters (14,107 ft), and an elevation gain of 400 meters (1,300 ft).

While Blenray used AFT Fathom, the interface and overall functionality for all product is the same; therefore, there is no need to worry about having to deal with a separate learning curve for each product. If you know how to use AFT Fathom, then you are over the learning curve by about 90% when it comes to knowing how to use AFT Arrow, and about 80% for how to use AFT Impulse.

Also, each product has a few add-on modules.  When you learn the powerful time-saving capability of the AFT Fathom Goal Seek & Control (GSC) module, this knowledge translates directly to using the AFT Arrow Goal Seek & Control (GSC) module.  Dealing with slurries using the AFT Impulse Settling Slurry (SSL) module is no different than working with the AFT Fathom SSL module.

The other significant advantage is that any AFT model file can be imported or exported between any AFT product.  This is incredibly useful because if you need to do a steady-state analysis with AFT Fathom, then find out later that you’re tasked with a waterhammer (surge) analysis project, you can easily open your AFT Fathom model directly within AFT Impulse.

No need to re-build the model from scratch!  All you would need to do is:

  • Define your transients
  • Section the pipes
  • Specify the simulation duration
  • Then evaluate the results.

Overall, with the ease of usage and industry-leading functionality, Any engineer in the mining industry can quickly analyze the flow of liquids, gases, or slurries in piping systems.
