Global editing is a powerful feature that has existed in all AFT software since version 1.0. The Global Editing windows for pipes and junctions allow engineers to input or modify data for all or a select group of pipes and junctions in a model. This saves countless time when there are many modeling changes that need to be made. Rather than making changes one by one, changes can be made once and applied to an unlimited number of pipes or junctions.
Here is how global editing is used. First, you must have a model. Consider the model below which is one of the Example models provided with AFT Fathom. This model is a spray system with eight spray discharge junctions. Follow each of the remaining screen images to complete the process. Global editing will be used here to change the size of each spray junction from 0.5 sq. inches (3.2 sq. cm) to 0.75 sq. in (4.8 sq. cm) in order to provide more flow for the process.
AFT Fathom Spray System Model
Step 1. Select Global Edit for Spray Discharge junctions from the Edit menu
Step 2. Select the spray junctions to be changed. In this case select all the junctions.
Step 3. Open the spray discharge junction window for data entry
Step 4. Enter data to be changed in the spray discharge properties window template and then click the OK button
Step 5. Select the data to be changed in the list at the right.
Step 6. Select the Apply Selections button to apply the selected data at the right to the selected junctions at the left.
Step 7. Select the OK button at the bottom to finalize the changes. Users have the option to select the Cancel button and no changes will be made.
These steps can be used for any type of relevant junction as well as pipes. Use global editing with caution as you can wipe out valid data very quickly.
