AFT in the Aerospace Industry
In the New Space Race, maintaining a leading edge over the competition requires quality, confidence, and consistent performance. Luckily, AFT software helps you ensure your system will perform reliably under any sort of scenario. It's not rocket science to see how AFT software makes your mission a success.

Deluge System
AFT Impulse Simplifies Design of Complicated
Water Deluge System
Company: Reynolds, Smith & Hills, Inc.
Problem: Water deluge system design for ISS rocket launch. Water system would aid in sound suppression and launch pad cooling.
Product Used: AFT Impulse modeled the hypothetical system design to determine flow rates and valve opening times. The Scenario Manager feature allowed for “what if” scenarios. The transient force data was exported to CAESAR II for pipe stress analysis.
Solution: Reynold, Smith & Hills, Inc. designed a water deluge system to suppress sound at a fictitous rocket launch facility, sizing pipes and exporting forces for stress analysis. They determined the system could meet flow design requirements with proper pipe sizing, nozzle sizing, and valve opening times.

Expansion
with Minimal Environmental Impact
Company: Reynolds, Smith & Hills, Inc.
Problem: A space launch water system must accommodate a new, larger vehicle, requiring additional flow. Accommodations had to minimize new infrastructure and environmental impact.
Product Used: AFT Impulse modeled the transient requirements for a post-launch deluge system primarily used to break up damaging acoustic waves, provide cooling, and cryogenic abatement.
Solution: Reynold, Smith & Hills, Inc. expanded a launch pad deluge system to meet a significantly increased flowrate demand with minimal environmental impact. A new 200-psi (1380 kPa) pressurized tank sufficiently supplied a flow capacity increase of more than 600%.
