Software Developer, IT and Security Specialist

Applied Flow Technology (AFT) is a world leader in fluid flow analysis applications and is actively looking for a software developer to help take us to the next level. The candidate should be self-motivated, a team player, and able to work on complex tasks with little oversight.

The primary focus of this software developer position is to enhance our Windows applications with new features and capabilities, and to expand into new technical areas and interfaces with other applications.

You would also be responsible for several inward and outward facing IT tasks. These would be varied in their nature and in the time spent. Most of our staff are technical specialists in computer science or engineering and we have many tasks that are dispersed among them. We are looking for someone to consolidate and oversee these tasks.

 

Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in computer science or related experience
  • 0-8 years experience in desktop software development
  • VB.NET programming experience (Visual Studio 2010 or later using the DotNet Framework 3.5 or higher)
  • User-interface design experience
  • Experience in IT-related tasks
  • Ability and interest to learn and take on new challenges
  • Availability to (on occasion) work off-hours to implement solutions (e.g., manage our local server during non-business hours)

The ideal candidate would be familiar with:

  • WinForms control building
  • Web services
  • Multi-threading
  • XML
  • InstallShield
  • Automatic testing platforms (e.g. TestComplete)

Responsibilities (partial list by way of examples):

  • Programming:
    • Designing user-interfaces with a variety of controls and complexity
    • Developing logic to retain and display engineering data and results in a variety of formats
    • Constructing new work-flow paths to optimize the user experience
    • Developing testing procedures
    • Maintaining source code repository and versioning system
  • IT inwardly focused:
    • Microsoft Windows and Office products
    • Microsoft Exchange/Outlook
    • Printers
    • Utility software such as Slack
    • General Microsoft Server 2016 management
    • Active directory and domain-connected computer management
    • Handling Windows-based end-user client and network software and hardware installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, licensing and acquisition
    • Domain Network Support
    • Experience and/or ability/desire to learn how to administer cloud-based tools such as Salesforce
    • Administering VOIP telephone system
    • Helping our team with VPN to our network
    • Overseeing network security
  • IT outwardly focused:
    • installing our commercial software products
    • rights management (i.e., copy protection)
    • Creating and maintaining installation scripts for our commercial, desktop-based software solutions
    • Working directly with customers/users (typically IT professionals or engineers) on troubleshooting issues related to:
    • Assisting with and/or managing our website IT issues
