AFT Chempak Property Database ™
Comprehensive thermo-physical properties on a wide range of fluids for AFT's family of pipe flow modeling software products
- For incompressible pipe flow analysis
-
- data on ~700 fluids for AFT Fathom™, AFT Impulse™ and AFT Mercury™
-
- assemble non-reacting static mixtures
- For compressible flow analysis
-
- data on ~600 gases for AFT Arrow™ and AFT Titan™
-
- model both static mixtures and dynamic mixing resulting from intersecting flow streams
With fluids listed by up to three commonly used names, the formula and chemical structure, and with the ability to sort on any of these identifiers, finding a specific fluid from the large number available is quick and easy.
AFT Chempak Viewer ™
Access the Chempak Property Database as a stand-alone application
- Assemble non-reacting mixtures on a mass or mole basis
- Calculate fluid or mixture properties for any combination of the available input parameters as a single point, two point or a range of inputs
- Save or set your parameter and unit preferences as the default
- Sand reload input sets
- Save fluid and mixture sets for quick recall using the Recent Fluids list
- Specify a name for any fluid or mixture and it appears along with the standard Chempak name
- Change units 'on the fly' by double-clicking an output column header
Output
- Chempak Viewer provides both text and graphical output
- Configure which parameters are displayed, display order and units
- Supports English and SI units
- Export as a PDF file or to a spreadsheet for additional calculations
- Select a portion of the output and paste into a spreadsheet
- Customize your graphs using colors, axis scale, titles, markers and more
- Includes 2D or 3D graph styles
- Use your graphs in other documents
AFT Chempak Add-in™ (for Excel™)
Directly access Chempak fluid property functions from within a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet
- Imbed comprehensive, accurate fluid properties in your spreadsheet based calculations
- Paste or directly enter Chempak functions as you would with any Excel function
- Fluid selection, assembling mixtures, unit preferences and online help are available from the Chempak menu that appears on Excel’s menu bar
Note:
- Chempak Viewer, Chempak Add-in and Chempak Plus require Chempak Property Database
- Chempak Property Database requires at least one of the following: AFT Arrow, AFT Fathom, AFT Mercury, Chempak Viewer or Chempak Add-in
Chempak FAQ
What is the difference between the Chempak Property Database, Chempak Viewer and Chempak Add-in for Excel?
The database provides the fluid property data, and may be accessed by our pipe system modeling and optimization software as well as by Chempak Viewer and Chempak Add-in for Excel. When used with our system modeling software, it provides and expanded fluid list of about 700 liquids and 600 gases, along with mixing capability. Chempak Viewer allows you to use the property database as a stand-alone application. Think of it as an electronic version of your fluid properties reference book (though much more dynamic and capable of determining non-reacting mixture properties). Chempak Add-in for Excel lets you access any of the more than two dozen fluid properties within an Excel spreadsheet using the paste function command. Function inputs may utilize values in any cells, e.g. you could have cells with the fluid type, pressure and temperature and other cells referencing these that calculate the density, state, viscosity, etc.
Are the same fluid properties available within, say, Fathom or Arrow as within the Viewer or Add-in?
No. System modeling software, such as Fathom and Arrow, use and display in their output fluid properties needed for flow analysis, such as temperature, pressure, density, specific heat, etc. In total, about a third of the fluid properties Chempak calculates. All of the fluid properties Chempak calculates are available through the Viewer and the Add-in. Examples of properties not available within the flow analysis software are; molecular weight, quality, isentropic expansion coefficient and others.
Must commonly used fluids and mixtures always be specified upon opening Chempak Viewer?
No, you may save lists ranging from one to any number of fluids or mixtures. These may be opened from the file menu and the Recent Fluids button facilitates quickly accessing recently used fluids and mixtures.
What sort of output is available from Chempak Viewer and Chempak Add-in?
Chempak Viewer has an extensive and extensively configurable text output and graphical output. Text output can be for either a single point or for a range of inputs. What properties are shown, their units, order, etc. is all readily configurable through Output Control. For ranges, Graph Properties will provide a graphical output for a wide range of properties. Output options for the Add-in are limitless as the capabilities of an Excel spreadsheet. You may easily develop ranges of functions and referenced inputs to produce text output and graphical output using Excel’s graphing capabilities.
Does Chempak have property data for hydrocarbon products?
In general, no. Chempak contains properties for fluids with a unique chemical composition. Most hydrocarbon fluids are described by a range of composition and/or properties. For example, fluid meeting the specification for diesel oil #2 will not have a unique density, rather, it will fall into a range of densities.
If I buy a license for the Chempak database, can I use it with other AFT products?
Yes. The Chempak database can be shared and accessed among all AFT products except for the utility suite.
Can I set up my own preferences for output content and engineering units in Chempak Viewer and Excel Add-In?
Yes. This can be done using Output Control and Unit Preferences in the Viewer. The Add-In has a similar Unit Preferences window where referred units can be specified.
Can I see how a property varies with temperature or some other parameter with the Chempak Viewer and Excel Add-In?
Yes. In the Viewer you can specify that properties be obtained for a range. The results are displayed in the table. They can also be graphed. In the Add-In, you can specify ranges of any kind in the Excel cells.
Can I find out what phase the fluid is in the Viewer and Excel Add-In?
Yes. In the Viewer the Phase is shown in the Output by default. In the Add-In, there is a function call "Phase" which can be added to a cell.
