The AFT Arrow CST Module calculates costs for system piping, or ducting, and components, tightly intergrating your system design and its cost, on both a first and life cycle cost basis.
By effectively modeling the compressible flow interaction of system elements, AFT Arrow has provided a significant improvement in engineers' ability to design and analyze their piping and ducting systems. The CST Module now extends this modeling capabilitiy to include economic aspects, providing a powerful tool for the development of cost effective designs. Potential applications range from development of a new system design, system expansion, or assessment of existing systems to determine energy saving modifications. Costs can come from your own databases or an optional RS Means MeansData™ cost database.

Cost Databases

Built-in cost database management allows you to create, edit and manage databases containing costs for pipes or ducting, fittings, valves, pumps and other equipment. Cost types include material, installation, maintenance; just about any kind of fixed or recurring costs.

AFT Arrow's Database Manager in conjunction with the CST Module's capability to link items to selected databases lets you organize your data how it best fits your needs, whether by material or component type, geographically (installation costs), by project, etc. Compressors and fans in your model can be linked to your 'compressor/fan cost data' while pipes are linked to your 'pipe material cost data' with a separate link to installation cost data, allowing you to independently maintain costs in the various databases and have them reflected in your model. Want to combine all applicable costs into a project specific cost database? Easily done using Database Manager's ability to move data between database files.

In addition to your own cost databases, if you're an Aspen Kbase™ user, you can pass information from your AFT Fathom model to Kbase, generate costs using Kbase, then pass these back to create AFT Fathom cost databases.

Of course keeping cost data current is critical to accurate cost estimating. In addition to updating your cost databases, the Arrow CST Module provides cost multipliers that may be applied individually to the various cost items (components, pipe materials, fittings, etc.) and cost categories (materials, installation, energy, matenance). Multipliers may be applied to individual cost databases or globally to all databases currently being used in your model allowing you to quickly adjusts costs for changes in supplier pricing, geographic region, anticipated inflation or just about any factor you need to account for.

Cost Reporting

With the CST Module, the Outputs window's Cost Report displays detailed cost information by specific items, by group (pipe, fittings, components) and subtotals for material, installation, and operating costs.
