Upgrading to AFT Arrow 4.0
Upgrade packages have been shipped to all current AFT Arrow Support, Upgrade & Maintenance (SUM) subscribers, as announced in last month’s Pipeline. These packages include a CD with your v4.0 license number (replaces your old, v3.0 license number), a printed manual for each license or seat and upgrade instructions. What these packages don’t include is a new license on disk or key (dongle). To avoid having to exchange licenses we upgrade your current license via email. Be sure to follow the included instructions and remember to upgrade your license before installing version 4.0.
Among the new features in AFT Arrow 4.0 are the available GSC and CST Add-on modules. Evaluation licenses are included on the CD’s. To try out either or both of the Add-on modules follow the instructions in Installing Evaluation Licenses.pdf found in the CopyProtection\Tokens folder of the AFT CD. Before installing an Arrow Module evaluation lciense you’ll need to first upgrade your AFT Arrow license and installed AFT Arrow 4.0.
Don’t forget the limited time special pricing for AFT Arrow Add-on Modules –
AFT Arrow Add-on Modules are discounted 25% when purchased at the same time as an AFT Arrow license. A great benefit for new AFT Arrow customers. To provide the benefit of this package discount to previous AFT Arrow customers, existing license holders may purchase Add-on Modules alone through July 30, 2006 and receive the package discount. The discount applies to one module of each type for each AFT Arrow license owned or each seat on a network license. Please note the Add-on Modules require version 4.0 of AFT Arrow.
AFT Around the World
This past month has been a busy one for travel with AFT exhibiting at the ACHEMA conference in Germany and conducting seminars in China and Korea.
Held in Frankfurt, Germany, ACHEMA is the largest conference serving the fields of chemical engineering, environmental protection and biotechnology. Attended by representatives from around the world, many engineers were able to see firsthand the benefits of modeling their piping and ducting systems using AFT system modeling tools.
AFT’s Jeff Olsen traveled to Bejing, China to teach a 3 day seminar on AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, AFT Impulse and AFT Mercury, coordinated and arranged by AFT’s distributor in China, AECsoft. The picture below show’s the many attendees to this popular seminar (Jeff is the good looking chap front row, center).
Pump / Pipe Systems Cost Reduction
Chemical Technology magazine’s April 2006 issue featured an article on cost reduction technologies by AFT’s Trey Walters titled Cutting costs in pump and pipe sizing. The article describes how combining the proven technologies of hydraulic modeling and numerical optimization has yielded a new tool to optimize the sizing of pumping and piping systems for first cost or life cycle cost and over multiple design and operating scenarios. An example is included by way of the design optimization of a cooling system where a 10 year life cycle cost reduction of 36% was achieved, or $2,000,000 for this system.
This technology is available today in AFT Mercury, for incompressible flow systems, and AFT Titan, for compressible flow systems. So if your interested in achieving significant cost reductions with your system designs, contact us for a free demonstration.
Tip of the Month – Setting Preferred Units
To choose only English or SI units, go to the Options menu, select Parameter & Unit Preferences, then the Unit Preferences tab. Choose the Default Unit System then click the Apply Default Units button. This will set the units to be used both on input and output windows.
