AFT Fathom 7.0

Building on the experience of the leading incompressible pipe and duct flow modeling tool, AFT Fathom 7.0 brings a new level of capabilities and ease of use to pipe flow modeling. A few of the new features to be found in v7.0 include:

  • Automated orthogonal pipe drawing
  • Pipe submergence (in accordance with HI 9.8.7) and submergence margin design alerts added
  • Enhanced pump system curve generation offers enhanced calculation of system curves for parallel pump systems, enhanced composite pump curves for systems with different pumps in parallel, inclusion of single pump curves on same graph as composite pump curve, and inclusion of pump efficiency curve for single and multiple pump systems
  • Display multiple instances of the same parameter with different units simultaneously

Upgrade packages are currently being assembled and shipped to all AFT Fathom license holders with current support. If support for your AFT Fathom or Fathom Modules license has lapsed, now is a good time to think about reinstating support to receive this valuable upgrade.

Training Activities Around the World

2008 has begun with strong demand for onsite training with an AFT Fathom/AFT Arrow/AFT Impulse class last week at Shaw Stone & Webster's Charlotte office followed by an AFT Impulse class this week at Shaw Stone & Webster's Stoughton, MA office. The following week AFT will be in the far north teaching an AFT Fathom/AFT Impulse class at Canadian Natural Resources oil sands facility in northern Alberta and a couple of weeks after that an AFT Fathom class is scheduled at Duke Energy's Oconee Nuclear Station in South Carolina.

If you'd like to hold an onsite AFT flow modeling seminar at your facility, please contact us us for additional information. To attend a seminar at AFT's offices in Colorado, please refer to the section below.

Tip of the Month - Using Orthogonal Pipe Drawing in AFT Fathom 7.0

A new feature in AFT Fathom 7.0, orthogonal pipe drawing automatically inserts an intermediate vertex into a pipe and adjusts the length of the pipe segments to create a right angle graphical bend between the pipe end points. Orthogonal drawing can be turned on either from Options, Workspace Preferences Display Options tab, or quickly toggled on and off with the F4 key.

By toggling orthogonal drawing on and off you can easily mix pipe drawing modes and even have drawing modes compliment each other. For example, with orthogonal drawing toggled off, select a pipe and insert a segment using AFT Fathom's Segment Manager (shortcut key = ctl-E). Now when you toggle orthogonal drawing back on and drag this pipes end point, a new orthogonal section is created starting from the intermediate vertex created when you added the pipe segment.
